The Hawthorne Effect

Recently in my news feed, I came across young girl explaining:

What would happen if a camera crew was following you all day ?

This is called the Hawthorne Effect, and it is real enough to be visible and replicated in randomised controlled trials like this one :

Here are interesting bits from the comment section

  1. imagining that you are being seen increases accountability, which is great
  2. but accountability goes against authenticity; one would be to stressed being watched over all the time
  3. yet the whole society was operating under that premises, and the person watching was God himself
